The Chandler Unified School District has sponsored and hosted the Nike Tournament of Champions since December 2001.
With 41 schools, 38,000 students, and more than 4,000 employees, CUSD is one of the largest and fastest growing school districts in the United States. District boundaries cover more than 80 square miles in Chandler, located just Southeast of Phoenix.
With their sponsorship of the Tournament of Champions, Superintendent Dr. Camille Casteel, Assistant Superintendent Frank Fletcher, and the CUSD Governing Board have demonstrated a strong commitment to providing unique, positive, competitive, and educational opportunities for students both within and outside their District.
In its partnership with CUSD, the Tournament of Champions makes an annual contribution to both the Chandler Education Foundation and the Desper Family Scholarship for Women in Education and Sports, named after former Chandler High School basketball coach Mike Desper, who was instrumental in bringing the Tournament of Champions to Arizona shortly before losing a valiant battle with cancer.
In 2007 CUSD became one of the first Districts in America to sign an all-school contract with Nike to provide class-leading athletic uniforms, apparel, and equipment for all of its student athletes.
