THE NIKE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Established in 1997, the Nike Tournament of Champions is universally considered the greatest high school basketball event in the world. Since its inception it has hosted nearly 20,000 athletes from 41 States and every Canadian province; it has produced 144 State Champions and 13 of the past 16 consensus National Champions. Throughout its history, the event has showcased literally hundreds of high school All-Americans and future collegiate and professional stars; its alumni include 8 Olympians and more than two dozen WNBA athletes, including five #1 draft picks.
The 17th Annual Tournament of Champions will be held December 19, 20, and 21, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ. Competing teams will arrive on Wednesday, December 18 for a gala Opening Ceremonies and Dinner honoring more than 1,500 athletes, coaches, and invited guests. A NIKE sponsored athlete will deliver the keynote address.
The tournament headquarters and the site of Opening Ceremonies is the spectacular Arizona Grand Resort, which has served as the Official Resort Hotel for the NIKE Tournament of Champions since 2001. The Grand is a sprawling, AAA Four-Diamond Resort set on 330 acres at the base of the South Mountain Preserve; teams, families, and fans stay in the Resort’s 540 square foot suites for just $99 per night.
Competition is held at high schools within the Chandler Unified School District, which has hosted the event since 2001. Fans may attend the competition for just $10 per day or $25 for all three days. Children and seniors pay just $5 per day or $15 for three days.
The Tournament of Champions is sanctioned by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) and the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).
